Best Lights for your bike
What lights worked for you and witch ones did not? I 'am looking to buy a set to enjoy night rides, but have no idea where to start LED,HID, and halogen.

As Steve said, How much do you want to spend. HID is the best way to go, but you can get by with less. I use a Halogen Cygolite Night Rover which works well and costs less than $100. (@ REI) Which ever way you go, I recommend it be a helmet mount light as opposed to a bar mount if it will be your only light.

I use Night Pro which I purchase 4 years ago. I prefer helmet mount and a handle bar mount, but if I went with just one it would be the helmet light. The night pro's I have are halogen. What do you all think the minimum watts for a one light unit should be?

Howdy: I finally got around to getting a decent light. Mine is a Light & Motion ARC LiON that I got from nashbar.com. It seems to be a near perfect light for night riding...but then I'm new to all things related to MTB so my opinion might not be what you're looking for! Helmet mount is a must..without a doubt!!! I use a little LED for bar mounting just to help out a bit. good luck and we'll see ya on the trails sometime! John

Go to www.mtbr.com and check out the reviews. Find the lights listing page. Mouse over number of reviews (usually a high number of reviews means the light is going to rate pretty well). Find 2 or 3 highly rated lights in your price range. Read the reviews and make a decision. You get what you pay for so if you imagine yourself upgrading in 3 years, it may be better to sink the money into a good set now. Night Rider has been around a while and you can't go wrong there. Light n Motion reviews read well. Wattage? You'll want more eventually but maybe 12watts minimum for starters. Hope this is somewhat illuminating.

For future reference, my Trail Tech HID spot works great for $200.
